Item# Cambridge Stainless Steel Post Cap

Since 1988, The Nantucket Post Cap Company has been creating fine post caps, finials, arbors, gates, benches, tables, and pergolas made out of the highest grade of redwood and cedar. All their high quality Stainless Steel Post Caps are made from the best grade of clear, all heart, vertical-grain Redwood or Clear Western Red Cedar, so you can choose the wood species that works best for your fencing, deck, or other landscaping project.

Both Red Cedar and Redwood have great resistance to moisture, decay and insect damage. These wood types also have exceptional dimensional stability. Your Stainless Steel Post Cap will lay flat, stay straight, retain fasteners, and provide a firm base for many types of stains and paints, giving you a post cap that will hold up to the elements for years to come.

Post caps, a.k.a. fence caps, are decorative structures covering the tops of wooden posts on outdoor decks and wooden fences. Not only do they enhance the outdoor wooden structure, but they protect the top of the wooden post from cracking and splintering. Post caps will also cover up any uneven mill cuts or other eyesores on top of the fence or deck post. Available for nominal post sizes of 4x4.

How to choose the correct stainless steel post cap size:

Nantucket Post Cap LogoNantucket Post Caps are sized according to the actual physical measurement of your post.  All post caps are made 1/8" larger on the opening then the actual post size you specify.  For example, if your 4x4 standard post truly measures 3-1/2" x 3-1/2", then you would choose that size and your cap would come with an inside measurement of 3-5/8" x 3-5/8".

All Nantucket Post Cap products are made in the U.S.A.

Maintenance of Metal Post Caps

Stainless Steel post caps come with a thin, clear marine lacquer designed to protect them before and during installation. Once exposed to the elements, the sun’s ultraviolet rays, moisture, and pollution begin to break down this coating, exposing the metal underneath.

Post Cap FAQ's

Will my stainless steel post caps rust?
Stainless steel is an alloy of iron that contains more then 10% chromium. Stainless steel has a hard oxide coating which makes it resistant to stains. Corrosion and wear strip away this coating causing the steel to rust. To maintain this coating, clean periodically with a mixture of vinegar and club soda.

Installation
How do I attach the post cap to the post?
We recommend using an exterior-grade construction adhesive to adhere the cap to the post.  Apply the adhesive liberally to the inside of the cap and place the cap firmly over the top of the post. If you prefer to use Brad nails, be sure to pre-drill all nail holes to avoid splitting.
